Liverpool central defender Nat Phillips is confirmed to have been sidelined for a number of weeks with a cheekbone fracture, according to reports from the club’s official website.
The 24-year-old has been used sparingly by the Reds this season with the gaffer Jurgen Klopp able to call upon the services of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip besides the summer recruit Ibrahima Konate.
Phillips, however, made the starting team sheet for Liverpool earlier this week in the dead rubber Champions League group game at San Siro against AC Milan and was praised for his composed showing at the back.
He picked up an injury during the midweek game and following assessment by the Liverpool medical staff, Phillips is in line for a spell on the sidelines with his return to the fold expected in time for the turn of the year.
Speculation surrounding his future at Anfield beyond the forthcoming January transfer window, however, continues to gain ground with West Ham United credited with a strong interest in signing the defender.
