Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti issued a warning to Liverpool following the Champions League draw on Monday that pitted the two sides against each other in the Round of 16.
The redo of the event had Liverpool drawing Serie A holders Inter Milan in the two-legged tie to be played out next year in February-March which is expected to make up for an eventful showing.
Jurgen Klopp’s men topped their group with six wins on the run as Liverpool became the first English side to record a 100% win percentage in the group stage of the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan who had earlier been pitted against La Liga outfit Villarreal in the initial event are now due to face a formidable side in Liverpool but club icon Zanetti was quick to play down the talk of a tough game on the cards for the Italians.
According to reports from Football Italia, Zanetti said Liverpool were a top team and backed Inter to perform well in their first knockout game in the competition in ten years.
“It’s useless to comment because everybody saw what happened.”
“We accept what we got and we are ready to face Liverpool. They are a top club, but we are the same. Inter have a great history. We have a lot of time to prepare for the game and we’ll be ready.
“It’s a great satisfaction to play in the Champions League knock-out phase for the first time in ten years,” the former defender continued.
“Inter have been missing it for too long and it’s great to be back. Liverpool are a top team, but we are Inter and we must face them in the best way.”
