Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has called upon the Liverpool board to resolve Mohamed Salah’s contract standoff on the back of the player’s fine run of form.
Salah’s current deal at Anfield is due to expire in the summer of 2023 and there has been much talk of Jurgen Klopp pushing for the Egyptian to renew terms and commit his long-term future on Merseyside.
The 29-year-old star forward, however, is holding out for a major hike in his wages which could see him become the highest-earning player in the club’s history should Jurgen Klopp’s camp give in to the demands.
With the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona keeping tabs on Salah’s situation, ex-Villa man Agbonlahor reckons Liverpool will be better off paying Salah’s wage demands considering his exploits in front of the goal.
Speaking to Football Insider, the player-turned-pundit says Liverpool will find it tough going in the transfer market while on the search for a replacement for Salah if he decides to call it quits at Anfield.
“If there’s one player you spend that money on, it’s Mo Salah.”
“He deserves every penny. He’s the best player in the Premier League, and for me, he’s the best player in the world at the moment. It’s money well spent by Liverpool.
“The football that he plays, the goals that he scores, he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down.
“It’s going to cost you £100million to get someone who is not even as good as Mo Salah. For me, it’s a no brainer.
“Liverpool know that if they don’t give it to him, someone else will give it to him.”
