Injury Update

Thiago Alcantara’s return to the Liverpool fold delayed until after the international break

Thiago Alcantara’s return to the Liverpool fold from his recent spell on the sidelines has been delayed until after the forthcoming international break.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s second-leg Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal, Pepijn Lijnders confirmed that Thiago’s return to training will happen in the aftermath of the international break next month.

Forward player Divock Origi, however, is nearing his way back into the Reds camp but remains unavailable for selection for the upcoming cup outing in the English capital later this week, according to the Liverpool assistant manager Lijnders.

“Thiago, hopefully he will be in full team training after the international break to prepare for the Cardiff game. Divock will not be ready until after Cardiff.”

Liverpool’s key midfield man Thiago has not played since December 16 in the win over Newcastle United following a positive test for COVID-19 and a subsequent knock that added to his time out on the sidelines.

Jurgen Klopp will be glad to have the Spain international back in his ranks with Liverpool’s creativity going forward limited with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
