Neal Maupay enjoyed the game’s first effort on goal with the Brighton striker’s shot just narrowly wide of Alisson Becker’s right-hand post.

Sanchez was called into action to deny Sadio Mane after the latter was teed up by Mohamed Salah as Liverpool did not have to wait for long to open their account.

A brilliant ball by Joel Matip set free Luis Diaz who bravely beat the onrushing Sanchez to find the back of the net but had to be evaluated by the medical staff as Sanchez escaped a possible red card.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s teasing cross into the box found his fellow full-back Andy Robertson who shot way over the bar as Klopp’s men went into the break with a slender lead.

Brighton could have found a way back into the game in the opening stages of the second period only for Leandro Trossard to shoot over the bar.

Salah’s effort took a deflection off Lewis Dunk and hit the crossbar with just a few minutes later, the Egyptian got a chance to get on the scoresheet after Yves Bissouma had handled a shot from Keita inside the box.

The 29-year-old stepped up to dispatch the penalty with ease and make it 2-0 for Liverpool who played out the final 30 minutes of action in a composed manner to get past the finish line.
