Jurgen Klopp says Mohamed Salah’s foot injury to be assessed further

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Mohamed Salah’s foot injury in the 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday would be assessed further.

Salah went down under a challenge before which he converted a spot kick to double Liverpool’s advantage against Graham Potter’s Seagulls as he brought up his 20th goal of the top flight campaign.

It was another convincing showing from the Anfield giants who lost midweek to Inter Milan in the Champions League but managed to secure a quarter-final berth courtesy of the win across the two-legged tie.

He was eventually subbed off in the 65th minute with Diogo Jota coming on to replace from the bench with the Reds seeing out the final stages of the game to clinch the win and close the gap with Manchester City to three points at the top.

Klopp, however, will be hoping for a respite on the injury front for his side with fears of aggravated injury trouble for Salah who is in line to undergo tests to determine the extent of his injury, according to the Reds gaffer via a report from Goal.

“He got blocked before the penalty, when he shot the ball he overstretched his foot slightly.

“He felt it then a little bit higher, but he’s not concerned. I’m not sure what that means exactly.

“Obviously we all know that Mo is not injured that often, and I hope it stays like this. He thinks it will be fine but we will see. You could see he couldn’t walk properly, so we need further assessment for sure.

“We’d have taken him off whatever the result. We have options. Bobby [Firmino] didn’t even play today. I saw [the injury] immediately, then it went quite quickly, penalty, bam bam. Then after that you see him going down. I’m not sure that happened before with Mo, to be honest.”
