Mohamed Salah starts for Liverpool in Saturday’s Anfield showdown against Watford but Sadio Mane finds himself on the bench along with the returning Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Arnold had been a concern on the injury front of late with a hamstring issue but his return to the fold would be a major boost for the Reds ahead of next week’s trip to Etihad.
Gomez starts at right-back
In Arnold’s absence from the first XI, England international Joe Gomez provides cover in the right-back role with Andy Robertson returning from injury to slot on the other side of the pitch.
Virgil van Dijk partners Joel Matip in the heart of the backline with Ibrahima Konate dropping down to the bench from the win over Forrest in the FA Cup before heading into the international break.
Mane missing from the attacking lineup
In the centre of the park, Fabinho is handed rest with the skipper Jordan Henderson joined by Spain international Thiago Alcantara and the academy talent Curtis Jones.
Sadio Mane, following his involvement with the Senegal side in the World Cup qualifier against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt, is named on the bench as Salah partners Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino up top.
