Mohamed Salah has sparked off fresh uncertainty over his Liverpool future as the winger remained coy to renew his terms at Anfield beyond the summer of 2023.
There has been talk gaining ground that Liverpool could be forced to cash in on the Egypt stalwart as early as this coming summer with the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain keeping close tabs on his contract impasse.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Salah has hinted about being cautious over penning a new long-term deal on Merseyside with the 29-year-old saying that the ongoing situation was ‘really sensitive’.
“There are many things people don’t know about it. I can’t be selfish and talk about my situation, we’re in the most important period [of the season] for the team, so I have to talk about the team and focus on the team. That’s the most important thing.
“I can’t say yes, I can’t say no,” Salah admitted. “I’ve said many times before about what I want, but then again, I can’t really go deep into the contract because it’s a really sensitive situation.”
Salah is understood to be pocketing a £200,000-per-week wage but with Timo Werner, Edinson Cavani and John Stones earning more, the Liverpool talisman is holding out for a major hike in his pay package to extend his contract.
The Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is pushing for his dangerman to stay put at Anfield but could be forced to cede to Salah’s demands of a salary in the region of £400,000 to £500,000.
