Liverpool prepared to shell out club‑record £85.5 million to land Darwin Núñez

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to shell out a club‑record transfer fee of £85.5 million to land Darwin Núñez from Benfica this summer.

Núñez is understood to be the top name on the shopping list for the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp whose hunt for reinforcements in the attacking third has been underway since Sadio Mane’s future sparked off intense speculation.

According to a report from The Guardian, Mane is closing in on a move to Bayern Munich despite Liverpool turning down the opening bid from the Germans and eyeing up a move for the Benfica dangerman Nunez at the same.

Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on the striker but Núñez is tipped to be keen on making the switch to Liverpool with the Merseyside heavyweights willing to offer the 22-year-old Uruguayan a five-year deal and line up a replacement considering Mane’s situition.

He emerged as one of the standout players in club football across Europe in the last term with 26 league goals and scored 34 across all competitions.
