Joe Gomez Opens Up On Competitiveness In The Premier League

Reds’ central defender Joe Gomez has admitted that Liverpool cannot afford to drop points considering the intense level of the Premier League this season.

Despite still being undefeated in the Premier league the draw against North London side Arsenal last weekend meant that Liverpool dropped two points from a winning position. James Milner’s goal put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead after the hour mark but a spirited Arsenal performance drew the Gunners level later on in the game for both sides to share a point each.

The draw meant that Liverpool dropped down to third place on the Premier League table as Manchester City and Chelsea produced victories on Sunday. For the first time in 30 years, none of the three teams have managed to suffer a loss after 11 games into the Premiership.

And Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has highlighted the importance of not dropping points in the Premier League as the Merseyside outfit is looking to win their first league title in 28 years.

While speaking to Standard, the young English central defender explained how ridiculous the Premier League is at the moment, “The level of the Premier League now is ridiculous, it’s relentless really, you can’t slip up at any point or teams will capitalize. We have to remember that, regardless of who we are facing. Every point is so important”

The 21-year-old Gomez also added that Liverpool has to focus only on themselves and not worry about any other rival clubs, “We are always on top of each other as a team, demanding more from ourselves and that’s how it has to be. We can’t control what other teams do so there is no point worrying about their results. We just have to focus on ourselves.”

Gomez has been one of the most standout players for Liverpool this season and he has partnered Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s defense with brave authority. It’s good to see such a young defender being aware of the situation around him and able to identify the minute details in the Premier League.
