According to the latest reports, Premier League side Liverpool FC is put on sale by their current owners Fenway Sports Group.
Liverpool currently sits on 3rd place in the Premier League two points away from leaders Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Serbian side Red Star Belgrade during their traveling Champions League trip.
The Reds are certainly contenders for the Premiership this term but the owners are playing a slightly shrewd game at the moment by trying to secretly sell the club on the market. The New York Post has revealed that Liverpool owner John W Henry is prepared to cash in on an offer which is the right price for the club.
A statement from FSG in the month of August stated that the club will not be for sale however, the owners can make a decision over a minor investor, “FSG has been clear and consistent: the club is not for sale. But what the ownership has said, again clearly and consistently, is that under the right terms and conditions we would consider taking on a minority investor, if such a partnership was to further our commercial interests in specific marketplaces and in line with the continued development and growth of the club and the team.”
John W Henry and Tom Werner have owned Liverpool since the past eight years purchasing the club for $477 million back in 2010 and only had one League Cup trophy to show for. Liverpool also reached the final of the League Cup and Europa League back in the 2015-16 season and of course the final of the Champions League last term.
The Reds are also unbeaten in 11 Premier League games and are seriously improving. But latest reports claim that American billionaire Henry, who is also the owner of the Boston Red Sox, is prepared to privately sell the club for a price upwards of £2 billion.
I think that the Liverpool owners should back the manager for this season because the Reds are close to winning some silverware if they improve in the right places. But then again, with the lack of trophies and funds, Liverpool have to show that they can win trophies and bring revenue into the club.
