Jurgen Klopp surprised by Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi’s tactics

In his first Premier League game as a manager, Roberto De Zerbi led Brighton against Liverpool at Anfield and his team put up a brave performance.

The Seagulls were energetic throughout the contest and the player’s grasped the manager’s tactics quite well. A hattrick from Trossard was the highlight of the match and the entire team should be praises for their relentless pressing and attacking display.

In his post-game interview, Jurgen Klopp admitted that he was surprised by De Zerbi’s tactics and stressed that he had no idea how the opposition team would perform.

As reported by Liverpool Echo, he said:

“Brighton set up in a really brave way – 3-4-3. The four midfield in a box – two tens, two sixes. We couldn’t prepare for it because we had no idea what they would do but that’s very often in football the case and then you have solutions for situations.”

However, the Seagulls were unable to seal the game even after being on a comfortable two goal lead in the initial minutes of the first-half.

Klopp’s players didn’t give up till the end, but the German manager still wants his players to be more ruthless as he was not happy by the way his team gifted easy goals.

On Wednesday, Liverpool will play in the Champions League against Rangers and will be hoping for a fighting response against the Scottish Premiership team.
