According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would be eager to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in order to solve his midfield crisis. Chelsea and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the English international for the past two transfer window.
During the summer, Rice was frequently mentioned as a possible transfer away from West Ham. Although Chelsea and Manchester United were among the potential suitors, his £100 million asking price was able to ward of any potential interest.
James Milner and Jordan Henderson are nearing the end of their careers, thus Liverpool will need to sign a strong midfielder and Rice unquestionably meets the bill.
Additionally, since joining the Premier League, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara have both suffered from injuries. Liverpool will benefit greatly from the West Ham midfielder’s strong fitness record.
Since leaving Chelsea as a young player, Rice has greatly progressed through the ranks at West Ham. He has become one of the top midfielders in the Premier League and might face off against Fabinho for the starting position at Anfield.
The Brazilian midfielder hasn’t been performing at his peak recently. Adding someone like Rice will also spur him on to develop because there will be more competition for positions. Rice is accustomed to playing in the Premier League and might have a big season at Anfield. The 23-year-old is a no-brainer for any elite team given his caliber, potential, and availability.
There is no denying that Liverpool needs a midfielder, so Rice could be a great addition. It will be interesting to see if Fenway Sports Group is willing to finance the move as the Reds will likely have to pay a club-record sum.
