Former Arsenal superstar Ian Wright has claimed that Liverpool’s front trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane must improve their performances this season.
Liverpool’s famous front three amassed a staggering 91 goals across all the competitions last season as the Merseyside club reached the Champions League final. The famous and well-known trio of the Reds hasn’t really managed to hit their heights of the last term and potentially get more goals in their basket.
The Reds managed to record their ninth Premier League victory this weekend as they beat bottom of the table side Fulham. Although the home side scored just two goals, it was enough for the result but the performance was still worrying for Premier League pundit Ian Wright.
Liverpool climbed to second place with the win over the London outfit but still looked sluggish and disjointed in their attack, not able to cast their magic in the attacking third.
While speaking on Premier League today, Wright went on to speak about the problems at Liverpool and especially their front three, he said, “Something’s not right with the front guys. They’re not performing to the levels that they were last season”.
Wright went on to focus on each player of the Liverpool front three individually and started off with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, “Mo Salah takes a lot of the heat in that respect cause as soon as he misses a chance that’s all people focus on. If he doesn’t get his final ball right, people just focus on that. But there is something missing in respect of Mane who started the season pretty well, scored four goals in quick succession.
The former English international then revealed that Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino is his favorite player but even the 27-year-old is not as ruthless as his usual self, “Firmino, he is my favorite player at the moment in the Premier League the way he plays but something’s not quite right. I don’t think they’ve been as ruthless as they could have been. I think that they have missed opportunities in games when they could have scored a lot more goals, which in turn give you your confidence back.”
Liverpool is still 2nd in the league but Wright is spot on with his analysis of the Liverpool front three. They need to start firing as soon as possible because the goal difference between Manchester City is just increasing with every passing game.
