Dean Saunders has hit out at Liverpool’s summer signing Darwin Nunez for his misfiring cameo off the bench in the win over Manchester City on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men picked up a narrow victory over their arch-rivals thanks to Mohamed Sala’s wonder of a goal in the second period and a brilliant display of defensive ability from the Liverpool backline.
Nunez, who had found the back of the net in the last two outings prior to the City clash, did not make the starting XI but was introduced later on in the game only for the forward to pass up a couple of good opportunities to score.
The home side could have added to their slender lead had Nunez been at his best going through on goal with the Uruguay international choosing not to pass it to Salah and instead attempting to score himself.
🙄 “Nunez has got to slip the ball across the pitch…he didn’t even see Salah!”
👀 “The jury is out on whether he can fit into the football that Liverpool can play!”

Ex-Liverpool man Dean Saunders was left unimpressed by Nunez’s display with the former, speaking to TalkSport, reckoning that it remains to be seen whether Nunez could fit into Klopp’s style of play.
“My honest opinion watching the game yesterday, he got through, he came on and got through, he’s got to slip the ball across the pitch. He didn’t even see Salah, Salah’s just scored as well.
“He shoots because he’s trying to get himself a goal. I know how he feels, he’s desperate to get off the mark at Liverpool.
“He then goes through again, tries to dink the keeper and gets it all wrong. But plus side, it looks like he can run.
“The jury’s out, I think so. The jury’s out. Whether he can fit into the class football that Liverpool play, whether he can fit into that. Hopefully he does.”
