Key journalist for Liverpool, Ian Doyle has revealed that Nathaniel Clyne, Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke are at the exit door of Anfield this winter transfer window.
Liverpool is currently sitting in 2nd place on the Premier League table and is the only club in England who look set to rival Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the title this season. However, Jurgen Klopp is quite aware that he needs an extremely strong bench and the German needs depth in his squad as well to bring on quality players in order for any misfortunes.
And Liverpool journalist Ian Doyle has opened up on the three players he thinks could leave the club in the January transfer window. While speaking to Liverpool Echo, Doyle stated that he thinks some squad players could leave but mainly on loan and it wouldn’t even come as a shock to most of the Liverpool faithful.
Doyle said, “Who could leave? Difficult one. There may by then [January] be players in need of first team action, so if Nathaniel Clyne, Dominic Solanke or Divock Origi go – even only on loan – it wouldn’t be the biggest shock.”
Forwards Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke have found it difficult to get regular football after Daniel Sturridge has shown that he still has goals in his locker when asked to come off the bench. Roberto Firmino is the first choice in Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3 system and therefore playing two center-forwards will be quite a rare tactic from the German boss.
Nathaniel Clyne has also found it difficult to get a starting berth as the emergence of young English stars Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander Arnold.
Doyle went on to add that Moreno and Sturridge are nearing the end of their respective contracts but Liverpool will be reluctant to sell them for a minimal fee, “Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are approaching the end of their contract but I’d imagine Liverpool might want to keep hold of them until the end of the season at least instead of cashing in on what would be a minimal fee.”
It doesn’t really make sense for Klopp to sell any of his squad players at the moment as Liverpool may require them during the long course of the season if they need to win any silverware. Even Moreno and Sturridge are decent players to come off the bench and change games.
