Chelsea are looking set to pip Liverpool to Enzo Fernandez’s signature with the west London club keen to sign the Benfica midfield talent.
Fernandez enjoyed a terrific campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the champions Argentina where his displays in the centre of the pitch for Lionel Scaloni’s side earned him the coveted Best Young Player award.
Liverpool were credited with a strong interest in moving in for the 21-year-old with some reports suggesting that the Anfield giants had an agreement in place with Benfica as Jurgen Klopp looks to reinforce his engine room in the coming months.
According to a report from Record, it is now claimed that Chelsea have entered the pole position for snapping up the Argentine midfielder after tabling a huge £115 million bid for Fernandez who has a £105 million price tag on his head.
Graham Potter’s Chelsea are keen to bring in a fresh pair of legs for their midfield roster with two key first-team regulars in Jorginho and N’Golo Kante both out of contract at the end of the season.
