Liverpool could be convinced to make a swoop for Newcastle’s Joe Willock

Liverpool could be convinced to make a swoop for Newcastle United’s Joe Willock in order to bolster their underwhelming midfield roster.

The Reds have been urged by many, including Anfield great Jamie Carragher, to sign a true central midfielder and provide Jurgen Klopp with that extra impetus in the engine room which has been lacking this season.

With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita out of contract in the summer and Liverpool not likely to trigger the option to buy clause in Arthur Melo’s loan deal, the Merseysiders would be forced to look elsewhere for a fresh pair of legs.

A report from The Athletic has claimed that the Magpies star Willock can prove to be the ideal signing for Klopp and Liverpool with the former Arsenal talent, who has featured in every top flight game this season, emerging as a standout performer for Eddie Howe’s side.

His showings have drawn comparisons to ex-Newcastle and Liverpool man Gini Wijnaldum whose departure in the summer of 2021 had led to a major void to fill in the Reds midfield ranks.
