Liverpool are set to intensify their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham ahead of a busy summer transfer window.
The Reds have been long interested in moving in for the highly-rated England midfielder, but a January swoop for the 19-year-old could not go through with Dortmund unwilling to part ways before the end of the season.
Despite Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United being the other teams in the mix for the Dortmund talent, Liverpool consider themselves frontrunners to secure the midfielder’s signature, according to Ben Jacobs ( via The Liverpool Echo).
“Jude Bellingham is there for Liverpool and they consider themselves to be one of the frontrunners.
“I don’t think we can rule out Manchester City more seriously entering the race over the coming weeks. They’re later to the process than Liverpool or Real Madrid, but those are the three main contenders.
“If Liverpool have their way, we know that Bellingham is a top target, so I do expect them to throw everything at it.”
Liverpool would be urged to bolster their midfield department over the summer with the current options far from their best as the Reds have struggled for results so far this season with Jurgen Klopp’s men sitting 10th in the league table.
Three midfielders in Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are out of contract at Anfield and with their departures all but certain, there would be hope amongst the Liverpool faithful of a new face coming through the door.
