Jurgen Klopp provides honest squad verdict ahead of busy transfer window

German manager Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool has the perfect combination of youth and experience for a successful future despite their failures in the Premier League and Champions League this season

The Reds manager has admitted there would be changes in the playing XI this summer as the Anfield recruitment team plans for a much-needed midfield makeover.

Liverpool might miss out on Champions League qualifying for the first time since 2016 as they presently sit fifth in the Premier League rankings, four points behind Manchester United despite having played one fewer game.

However, the club’s recruitment staff has been working hard behind the scenes to arrange summer signings, with Brighton and Argentina star Alexis Mac Allister emerging as a major transfer target despite their unclear European future.

On the other hand, the Reds’ vice-captain James Milner will leave the club this summer. He spent an illustrious eight-year tenure at Merseyside in which he captured every major trophy.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and Arthur Melo are all expected to to leave when their contracts expire at the end of June.

After deciding to drop their interest in Jude Bellingham, Liverpool are reportedly in the market for at least two midfielders. They are keeping tabs on Chelsea stars Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount to solve their midfield woes.

Klopp claimed that despite plans to make changes to specific parts of the roster, his team already has the best foundation for a promising future. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“I love this team, honestly. It’s a really good group. Yes, we will change slightly, that’s clear, but the basis is absolutely great.”

“Age-wise the basis is great. Up-front, last line. Yes, midfield we have super young talents there as well. There is everything there that you need, to have a really positive and optimistic view of it.”

Liverpool have lacked quality players since their title winning season a few years back. Many of their first team players lack the enthusiasm to play and the club needs fresh legs in midfield to get them back to their best.

For now, the club will aim to enter the top four of the Premier League and then plan a good pre-season with the team. Liverpool defeated Brentford by a 1-0 scoreline as Mohammed Salah scored the lone goal of the match.

Wins like these would help them keep up the pressure on their rivals.
