Middlesbrough are set to turn down an approach from Liverpool for Hayden Hackney with the young midfielder eyed by the Merseysiders ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Liverpool are desperate to bolster their engine room before the next season gets underway and the 20-year-old Hackney is said to be one of the names on Jurgen Klopp’s wish list.
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Liverpool are expected to miss out on landing Hackney’s signature this summer which would come as a setback to the Anfield outfit’s plans of revamping the midfield roster at Klopp’s disposal.
Michael Carrick’s Boro count Hackney as a key player for the next season and cashing in on the starlet now is not in their best interests despite the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal keeping tabs on the Redcar-born midfielder.
Hackney featured in all but one of Boro’s Championship games since Carrick took charge at the club and the latter will be keen to retain the Scotland Under-21 international’s services heading into the 2023-24 campaign.
