Liverpool is looking to sign Dominic Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, but time may not be on the side of the Reds.
A force to reckon with in Leipzig’s midfield, Szoboszlai is an elite midfielder in the truest sense of the word. He can move between halves easily and is one of the best carriers of the ball in the Bundesliga. His knack for creating chances also shines through in every game.
It is reported that Liverpool representatives met RB Leipzig yesterday with hopes to get the transfer ball rolling. The Hungarian is reportedly very high on the list of attacking midfielders shortlisted by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
It’s not difficult to see why Liverpool are so keen on the midfielder. With 6 goals and 8 assists in just 31 games in the Bundesliga last season, he delivers when it matters most. He is one of only 14 players to have created at least 100 chances in the Bundesliga since the beginning of 2021-22 and has an average of 2.5 chances created per 90 minutes.
Along with being a chance-creating machine, the Hungarian International also poses a threat from a distance. He has a knack for scoring goals from long-range, and this is only amplified when he gets a free kick. His work rate is also very high, with 10.8 km covered per 90 minutes. In a Klopp side that focuses on possession and pressing play, he would slot right in and add to the team’s tenacity off the ball.
Along with Liverpool, fellow Premier League side Newcastle United are also interested in the midfielder. Reports however confirm that Szoboszlai’s preference would be to go to Merseyside rather than the Toon.
An elite talent like Szoboszlai doesn’t come on the cheaper side, that’s for sure. However, Liverpool has a chance to snap him up for a relatively reasonable price, but there’s very little time before they can do that.
Szoboszlai has a release clause of £60m, which expires on June 30. The Reds will have to move lightning-fast if they want to get that deal done.
