Paris Saint-Germain looking to outpace Liverpool in the race to sign Gabri Veiga

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly making efforts to outpace Premier League teams Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City in the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, according to The Guardian.

The young Spanish player has a release clause of £34.4 million in his contract, which can be activated by any interested party.

Chelsea sees him as a potential replacement for Mason Mount, while Liverpool and Manchester City are aiming to strengthen their midfield with his signing. Barcelona are also monitoring Veiga’s situation closely.

The talented midfielder had an impressive season as a key player in midfield. Primarily deployed in a midfield pivot role, Veiga showcased his ability to contribute to the team’s attacking play, demonstrating a knack for goals and joining the attacks during possession.

Additionally, his off-the-ball movement and defensive skills were commendable. Veiga’s performances last season have likely contributed to the interest of clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Barcelona.

In the previous season, the 21-year-old demonstrated his attacking prowess by scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in 36 La Liga matches for Celta Vigo. Notably, he delivered an exceptional brace against Barcelona towards the end of the campaign, securing a comfortable victory and helping his team avoid relegation.

Veiga’s versatility allows him to excel in a midfield pivot position, and he has also operated as a number eight in the past.

However, considering Liverpool’s recent signings of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, it appears highly unlikely that the club would seek to add another central midfielder to their squad this summer unless a departure is seen.

Liverpool should prioritize the acquisition of a defensive midfielder to provide cover and manage Fabinho’s playing time next season.

They are currently pursuing Southampton’s Romeo Lavia for this role, but face competition from Arsenal, who are also interested in signing the Belgian midfielder.

As for Veiga, if Paris Saint-Germain were to activate his release clause and sign him, it would not significantly impact Liverpool’s plans.

The Reds have made shrewd signings like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for relatively low fees, proving their ability to conduct excellent business in comparison to Arsenal’s costly pursuit of Declan Rice.
