Liverpool close to finalising a deal for Southampton star Romeo Lavia

Liverpool are close to finalising an agreement with Southampton to acquire midfielder Romeo Lavia, as reported by Foot Mercato.

The two clubs have been in talks for the past few weeks as Liverpool aims to secure the signing of Lavia following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Reds have had their initial offer for the Belgian rejected by the Saints, as the club is holding out for a fee of around £50 million.

In order to beat competition from Arsenal and Chelsea, Liverpool are reportedly close to finalising the deal, having already agreed on personal terms with the midfield prodigy.

The recent departure of Jordan Henderson and the impending exit of Fabinho has left Liverpool in need of additional midfield reinforcements, making the signing of Lavia crucial for the club.

Despite only joining the Saints last summer, the young talent is set to move clubs for the second consecutive year, and his potential indicates a bright future ahead.

James Ward-Prowse is also expected to leave Southampton, with interest from West Ham United and Newcastle United.

As Southampton bids farewell to two key players, they will be hoping to move past their disappointing pre-season campaign.

The team only managed one win out of five matches and suffered defeats of 3-2 and 1-0 in their recent games against Bournemouth and AZ Alkmaar, respectively.

Under the management of Russell Martin, they will start their journey in the second tier of English football with a match against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Friday.
