According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have joined Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven’s emerging talent, Johan Bakayoko.
The 20-year-old player made a significant impact during the 2022/23 season for the Eredivisie side. Displaying notable performance, he achieved nine goals and six assists in a total of 39 appearances across various competitions.
Positioned as a right winger, Bakayoko has gained recognition at the international level, earning four caps for Belgium in the current year. His burgeoning reputation has attracted the attention of major European clubs.
Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for the PSV wonderkid as a backup plan should they face the departures of key players such as Mohamed Salah.

This comes in the wake of key player sales, including Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho, who have moved to the Saudi Pro League during the current summer. Qatari outlet Alkass has suggested that Salah has approved a transfer to Al-Ittihad.
Fabrizio Romano has contradicted the earlier report, asserting that Salah remains fully committed to Liverpool.
Despite this, Robbie Fowler, who manages Saudi team Al-Qadsiah, has expressed his desire for Salah to continue with Liverpool.
Talking about Bakayoko, he appears to possess decent potential and could serve as a backup to current wingers at a prominent club. However, labelling him as the successor to a player of Salah’s calibre makes no sense.

While the youngster showed promise during a noteworthy debut season at PSV Eindhoven, his performance and playing time improved following Noni Madueke’s transfer to Chelsea in January.
Although the 20-year-old Belgian winger has the attributes to mature into a top-tier professional, this will require time and patience.
