Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted that star winger Ousmane Dembele will remain at the Camp Nou despite heavy interest from Premier League side Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp has built quite a bomb of a team at Anfield as this Liverpool squad looks set to challenge and rival Manchester City for the next few seasons for the Premier League title. But following Liverpool’s Champions League success this season, Klopp is worried that he might lose a few star players with La Liga club Real Madrid looming over some of his attackers.
In order to add strength in depth to his squad and also compete on all fronts, the German boss wants to add a few summer signings to make his Liverpool team dethrone Manchester City and keep up the pressure on winning trophies.
Liverpool was linked with a move for Ousmane Dembele back in the January transfer window but nothing really materialized and those rumors have been carried forward to this summer.
The French winger arrived at the Camp Nou back in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee of £93 million from Borussia Dortmund but has failed to live up to his hefty price tag. Dembele has managed only 18 goals in 65 games for the Spanish champions with a rather underwhelming spell in Catalonia.
Reports claimed that Liverpool have already made contact with Barcelona to sign Dembele in the summer transfer window but the La Liga champions have confirmed that their star attacker is not for sale this summer.
Despite poor form and bad attitude over the recent months, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is willing to hand the 22-year-old another lifeline at the club. While speaking at a press conference, the 56 year old Bartomeu said, ‘Dembele is young, talented, different, I consider him to be better than Neymar, he has a lot to grow and we want him to do it here.’
However, Klopp is still eager to land Dembele as the duo spent a short time together during their time at Dortmund and is hoping that it is enough to lure the French star to Anfield.
