Reds manager Jurgen Klopp hopes that Liverpool can use the Champions League success as motivation to achieve something greater and collect more titles on a regular basis in the future.
Since Klopp took charge of Liverpool back in October of 2015, the German boss has gone on to reach three four finals but tasted defeat in the first three eventually winning the Champions League this season.
Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final of the Champions League in Madrid to claim the European trophy for the sixth time in the club’s illustrious history.
The 52-year-old finally expressed his relief at winning silverware five years after his last trophy and also explained that Liverpool should use this platform as a springboard to achieve more success in the future.
While speaking to the clubs official website, Klopp said, “It was actually better than I expected, to be honest, because it was long ago that I won something so I didn’t know exactly how it feels anymore, Of course, we move on. It’s not that wherever we go it’s like, ‘Morning, we won the Champions League!’. But why should we forget it? It’s just something that should give the boys more confidence – that’s important. But if you only use confidence you have no chance, but nobody should worry about this team. It’s not about being finally satisfied, happy or done with our careers because we won the Champions League, there is so much to go for. We smelled real how it feels – we played the final, we won the final, we came into the city, we saw the city and saw the people. That’s something you can get addicted to; you want to have that much more often.”
Klopp’s current contract with Liverpool expires in 2022 and the club chiefs are hoping to tie down the German for a while longer.
