The latest reports claim that former Liverpool left back Alberto Moreno has signed for La Liga club Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
Moreno joined the Merseyside club back in the summer of 2014 in a £12 million deal from Sevilla and became a first team regular under former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. However, following a five-year spell at Anfield, Liverpool decided not to extend his contract after it expired in June.
The emergence of Andrew Robertson over the last two seasons has been incredible and that has pushed Moreno out of the first team, and the Spanish defender was lacking any regular football. The 27-year-old has now officially joined Villarreal and returned to his hometown after making 141 appearances for Liverpool scoring three goals and winning one Champions League title.
Moreno finally thanked the Liverpool fans, teammates, family and backroom staff on his Twitter handle and posted a message after his departure, “Life goes in circles, and mine at my beloved Liverpool FC has drawn to an end. Upon reaching this point, I would like to thank the entire Liverpool family: my dear teammates, with whom I have shared five marvelous years and who I will forever think of as family, and, of course, the owners, directors, coaching staff, doctors, physios, kit-men, and each and every person at the club. Thank you for making me a better footballer and, above all, a better person; for helping me to fulfill one of my childhood dreams by winning the Champions League and, in doing so, to become a small part of the history of this great club. My gratitude too to the city, which embraced me as one of its own from day one and which will live on in my memory whenever I look at my son, Alberto Jr., a Liverpudlian himself.
