Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed the reason why he is not rushing into his contract extension and played down the talks of leaving any time before his contract expires.
It’s happy times for Liverpool at the moment as the club looks set to deliver another rollicking season in a bid to compete for major honors. The Reds recorded their best ever points tally in the Premier League ever since the club was formed as the racked up a staggering 97 points but still finished one solitary point behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
But it was not all doom and gloom for the Merseyside outfit as they managed to taste success in the Champions League by winning the prestigious trophy for the sixth time in their illustrious history. Jurgen Klopp is now reaping the reward of the hard work that he has put in over the past three and a half seasons and it’s no doubt that the German has made himself a fan-favorite among the Anfield faithful over the recent past and will remain in the hearts of the Liverpool fans for quite a while.
Following the Champions League title victory, Liverpool was ready to offer Klopp a contract extension beyond his current deal which expires in 2022 but the 52-year-old is in no immediate hurry to put pen to paper.
There was speculation circling around Liverpool that Klopp might decide to leave sooner than his deal expires with the English giants but the charismatic Liverpool boss has guaranteed the Reds he will stay committed for at least three more seasons, “I will not leave before the contract is ending. That is my side. That is why a contract is important. We have enough time to make decisions in that department. There is no need to do it now. Three years is really a bit early to be concerned. It is just a contract. The owners like what I do; I like what the owners are doing. I love the team, they are brilliant. Melwood is sensational. I’m looking forward to going to Kirkby [the new training ground] and all these things. There is always a step forward.”
However, Klopp has not ruled out the possibility of staying at Anfield for longer and stated that he does not want to overdo things and commit to projects earlier than required, “I don’t want ever to be in a situation where people are annoyed that I am still here. That’s the truth; you have that situation in football. It must always be a win-win situation. At the moment, it is 100 percent and we will see how long that will be. Whatever discussions came up … I saw a few headlines that I will finish for sure in three years, that I will sign a contract and all that stuff. I have three years. It is all good. The age group of the boys is good, my age is good for what I have to do. It’s strange that we talk about it three years before.”
