Richard Hughes Appointed As Liverpool’s New Sporting Director

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Premier League giants Liverpool have announced the arrival of Richard Hughes as the new sporting director of the club.

Richard Hughes

The 44-year-old will leave Bournemouth and take over his role at the Anfield Stadium from June 1st, 2024.

He has done a commendable job as the technical director of the Cherries and the Reds’ hierarchy are convinced that he can work well with the club’s reappointed chief executive officer Michael Edwards.

Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group are in the process of revamping the club’s backroom staff. Manager Jurgen Klopp will also depart at the end of the season and this leaves a lot of work to be done behind the scenes.

Hughes has previously worked with Edwards during his playing career at Portsmouth. They have known each other well for the past 20 years and it would be much easier for them to gel together at Liverpool.

The Scottish international’s smart decision-making concept has impressed the FSG group. They would be depending on him to sign quality players and maintain the club’s excellent rhythm in the post-Klopp era.

Hughes worked for four years at Bournemouth and he helped maintain stability at the club even during the Covid-affected days.
