Real Madrid star Eden Hazard has admitted that he is glad he does not have to face Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk in the Premier League after leaving Chelsea.
Hazard made the move from Chelsea to Real Madrid in a staggering £132 million deal but has insisted that Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk was the toughest defender he has come up against.
The 28-year-old winger was asked by Youtuber Jay Shetty if he ever feared to play against any defender and Hazard replied by saying that he stood no chance against the Dutch defender, ‘No-one. No-one, But to be fair, in the Premier League we have a lot of good defenders, especially this season Van Dijk was on fire. That’s why he got PFA Player of the Year. He’s really good. He’s strong. I remember we played Liverpool away and I was a striker, and I tried to jump against him but fell. No chance.’
Hazard was referring to the game that Liverpool won 2-0 against Chelsea in the Premier League at Anfield courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Van Dijk arrived at Liverpool from Southampton back in January 2018 in a club-record deal worth £75 million and has transformed Liverpool’s leaky defense into one of the tightest ones across the European continent.
The 28-year-old was rock solid in Liverpool’s backline helping them win the Champions League title in his first full season as a Red. Van Dijk also helped Liverpool to a 2nd place finish in the Premier League and he was named Premier League Player of the Season, PFA Players’ Player of the Year and was named in the UEFA Nations League Team of the Tournament for his performances for the Netherlands.
