Philippe Coutinho Won’t Be Signing For Liverpool This Summer, Klopp Confirms

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club will not be resigning Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield despite the transfer speculation around the Barcelona winger.

Jurgen Klopp has worked his magic at Liverpool after guiding the Merseyside giants to continental success by winning the Champions League title, the sixth one in the clubs rich history. Liverpool also endured their most successful season in the Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they recorded 97 points but still finished in second place in the League table, just one point behind eventual champions Manchester City.

However, Klopp is keen on dethroning the English champions in a bid to try and end Liverpool’s 30-year-long wait for a League title. And in order to achieve that he might need to reinforce his squad even further and add a few star players to his lineup. Pundits and fans have admitted that Liverpool might need an extra creative midfielder to unlock the tightest of defenses when playing opponents that sit back and defend and someone who can score those long-range goals as well.

Liverpool did have that kind of player at the club in the form of midfield gem Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian superstar was a key player for the Premier League club but handed in his transfer request to join Barcelona and left Anfield in the January transfer window in a staggering £142 million deal.

Coutinho has had a rough time at the Camp Nou ever since making the switch to the La Liga champions and in just 18 months he is eager to play football elsewhere after failing to adapt to Barcelona’s playing system.

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain are linked with signing the 27-year-old winger but so are his former club, Liverpool. Recent reports have claimed that Coutinho could make a return to Anfield this summer but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained the reason why the Champions League holders will not make a transfer approach for Coutinho.

The 52 year old German manager explained the situation to news outlet ESPN FC, “In general, Phil Coutinho helps each team in the world, still, 100% but it’s not about that, I like Phil, I think he’s a fantastic footballer and all that stuff, but it would be a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big-money signing and it’s not our year for that. It’s just not possible. As I said, having him would make each team better, we included, but I really hope that he finds his luck at Barcelona. Or maybe he found it there. We have contact, but not that close contact that I know exactly how he is doing, but the rest is only newspaper talk and stuff like that. If everything was true what newspapers write about me, wow! If it’s similar to what they write about me, I would say he’s completely happy at Barcelona and wants to sign a new six-year contract or whatever.”
