Former Liverpool central defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is slightly worried about the Reds’ defensive line which might struggle to cope with the pace and intensity of the Arsenal attack.
The Saturday showdown at Anfield promises to be a blockbuster as Unai Emery’s Arsenal visits the red half of Merseyside. The two teams at the top of the English Premier League table will try to keep their 100 percent record going but only one or none will maintain that record after the game.
Following Emery’s debut season with Arsenal, he led the club to a fifth place finish on the table but missed out on a Champions League berth. However, Arsenal has strengthened in the summer transfer window and will hope to put up a strong display against Liverpool that is challenging for the Premiership title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side finished just one point behind Manchester City last season but the German is still keen on dethroning Pep Guardiola’s team as champions of England. But ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has been a tad worried about Klopp’s defensive unit playing a high line.
While speaking to MNF, the 41-year-old said, “What Liverpool have done this season, we’re talking about them playing a high line, I’m not necessarily sure it’s a higher line, but it looks to me as if they’re trying to play offside. They caught players offside more than anyone in the Premier League this season. I don’t like it and I think they’ve been lucky and fortunate at different times this season to get away with it.”
Carragher also went on to state that Arsenal’s attacking line with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and new arrival Nicolas Pepe can prove to be a big headache for Liverpool if they are not on guard, “Well that’s what you think, you think Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe may be coming on also. When I say Liverpool have got away with it, the quality they’ve played against hasn’t been top class.”
