Former Basel manager Heiko Vogel has admitted that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is somewhat of a gentle killer and has been surprised by the meteoric rise of the Egyptian king.
Salah moved to Liverpool from AS Roma back in the summer of 2017 in a £37 million deal and ever since the winger has shown the world his true potential as Jurgen Klopp has managed to get the best out of the Egyptian forward.
However, Salah signed for his first European club back in 2012 with Basel and Heiko Vogel was in charge of the Swiss club. The German boss admitted that he did not predict the rise for Salah seven years later and even though he had seen everything that could make the young forward a global superstar, “He had everything—the speed, the finish, the left foot—and that wasn’t overlooked. Still, I would be lying if I said I had prophesied such a massive global career for him”
The 47-year-old further went on to explain that Salah was not someone with an outrageous character but rather calm and gentle which made his mentality even stronger, “If you knew him, he is not a world star, he has such a gentle character. It was always clear to me that he is an outstanding player, but whether he had the mentality? I didn’t know what exactly. Momo is a gentle killer.”
The 27-year-old Salah has now scored 74 goals and racked up 30 assists for Liverpool so far in 109 games and helped the Merseyside giants to win the Champions League title as well as sit top of the Premier League at the moment.
