Jamie Carragher Reveals Concern Over Sadio Mane

Former Liverpool superstar Jamie Carragher has admitted that he is worried about the fatigue regarding Sadio Mane after the winger returned to Anfield following his involvement with Senegal in the AFCON.

Mane played an integral role for Liverpool last campaign when he won the Golden Boot in the Premier League by helping the Reds to finish second in the Premier League, just one point behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The 27-year-old was also a key member for Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool brought the Champions League title back to Anfield for the sixth time in the clubs illustrious history.

However, Mane was also involved with his national country Senegal as he took them to the final of the AFCON after a long season with Liverpool. And last summer, Mane was involved in the World Cup as well just before the start of the Premier League.

Mane opted to return back to Anfield sooner than usual to play for Liverpool but ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated that it could be dangerous is Klopp overuses his prized winger. The African attacker has featured in all of the four matches so far this season across all competitions but the 41-year-old former England defender believes that Mane might need a bit of rest as well.

On his column on the Daily Telegraph Carragher wrote that fatigue might cause Mane to not play up to his full potential, “Mane has become so important that Klopp is understandably reluctant to leave him out and let him have a proper rest, He has played in 53 club games since the start of the 2018-19 season. Of all the forwards throughout the entire Premier League, only Salah has played more than his 4,515 minutes. Liverpool’s season did not finish until June and he was then away with Senegal in the African Cup of Nations, playing seven matches. The last was the final on July 19 against Algeria and yet he was still involved in the first match of the Premier League season three weeks later against Norwich City. It was similar the summer before when he played in the World Cup and was then away with Liverpool in America in the International Champions Cup”
