Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri has decided not to join his national team for the EURO 2020 qualifiers in order to try and break into the club’s starting eleven.
At the moment, Liverpool is sitting pretty at the summit of the Premier League table as they are the only team with a 100 percent record in England’s top flight after just four games. The Champions League holders have sent out a message to Pep Guardiola’s team that they are looking to push the blue half of Manchester all the way once again to try and dethrone Manchester City as champions of England.
There are other competitions that Liverpool are involved in as well including the FA Cup and the League Cup and the Reds will also have to defend their own Champions League title. The front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been looking quite sharp for now but they will need a break at some point of the season and the Reds have a few top class back up options to replace them if required.
Most fans might have forgotten that Xherdan Shaqiri is yet to start a game for Liverpool this season. But the Swiss star has reportedly withdrawn from the national team to concentrate on Liverpool. Surely, the Anfield faithful will love that Shaqiri has chosen his club over the country and the 27-year-old is keen to prove a point to his boss Jurgen Klopp.
Shaqiri arrived at Liverpool last season making 30 appearances for the Reds mostly off the bench and scoring six goals notching up five assists as well. His most memorable performance was against Manchester United at Anfield when he came off the bench to score two goals and earn the home side all three points.
