Former England international star John Barnes has admitted that Liverpool will pip the Premier League title this season against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Last season, Jurgen Klopp guided Liverpool to their best-ever campaign in the Premier League ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they recorded a staggering 97 points losing just one game in the process. However, even that was not enough to win the Premier League title as Manchester City finished just one solitary point ahead of the Reds.
But Liverpool is prepared to rival City once again this term and have gotten off to a great start in the current season as they are the only team with a 100 percent record in the Premier League by winning all four of their opening games. Liverpool are currently sitting at the top of the table and City are just two points behind the Merseyside giants but at such an early stage, John Barnes is confident that Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.
While speaking to reporters the 55-year-old ex-Liverpool star said that Klopp’s unit will dethrone Manchester City this season, “Last season, as well as Liverpool, were playing right to the end, I felt that Manchester City would win the league. This year I think Liverpool will win the league. They have this determination, this drive, this confidence now that they’ve won a trophy with Jurgen Klopp. What Klopp has instilled into this team are no excuses. So when teams then give themselves excuses – because players are injured or they’ve just come back late – they will drop points because they can drop points. Klopp won’t and he’s instilled that into the team and the fans. The players know, regardless of whether they’re playing, there are no excuses not to perform. That is Liverpool’s strength.”
