According to the latest reports, Liverpool center-back Virgil Van Dijk is set to agree on a contract extension with the Reds that will keep him at Anfield until 2025.
Liverpool broke the bank to make Virgil Van Dijk their most expensive signings of all time back in January 2018 when they paid south coast club Southampton £75 million for his services on a five-year contract. And the Dutch center-back has made his presence felt in the backline taking Liverpool to a whole new level aiding them to win the Champions League title this summer.
Van Dijk has been absolutely incredible for Liverpool and the defender managed to win the UEFA Player of the Year for his commanding displays and the 28-year-old has made Liverpool a real force to reckon with over the 18 months he has been at Merseyside.
In order to keep Van Dijk away from the clutches of other top European suitors across the continent, Liverpool is keen on tying the imperious central defender at Anfield for a while longer.
Reports claim that Van Dijk is set to agree on a new contract over the new few days which will extend his deal with Liverpool until 2025. The Dutchman will also receive a massive pay hike from his current wages of £125,000 a week to £200,000 a week.
It’s quite a deserved new contract but some claim that the deal on the table is due to Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United for an £80 million transfer fee from Leicester City eclipsing Van Dijk’s record.
