Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has explained that club icon Steven Gerrard will return to Anfield once again to manage to Merseyside giants.
Gerrard spent 17 years in Liverpool’s senior ranks as a player and had a brief stint coaching the club at a youth-team level before the Englishman was appointed by Scottish Premier League side Rangers in May 2018.
The 39-year-old Gerrard has performed well in his first year-and-a-half at Ibrox and has been tipped by former club mate Glen Johnson, who he played alongside for six years at Anfield, to make a return to Liverpool in the near future.
Clearly, at the moment, Jurgen Klopp is working his wonders at Liverpool as the German has guided the Reds to Champions League success and in an open battle with Manchester City for the Premier League title. But with the 52-year-old uncertain of his future, after his contract expires in the summer of 2023, there is a possibility for Gerrard to return to Liverpool, a club that he adores with all his heart.
Glen Johnson is quite certain that Gerrard will return as the 35-year-old spoke to Daily Star and said, “Stevie will be the manager of Liverpool one day, or at least certainly involved in some way one day, Obviously Stevie’s gone away and learned the ropes a bit like [Frank] Lampard did. And I’m sure we’ll see him return in the future. I couldn’t put a timeframe on it, but I’m sure he will one day.”
Johnson also spent time at Chelsea and has given his verdict on which team will win the crunch fixture at the weekend at Stamford Bridge, “I think Liverpool will be too powerful for them, to be honest, I just think their intensity, the way they play [will be too much]. They’re playing well at the minute and Chelsea kind of haven’t been so much. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still a top side with some top players, but Liverpool will just be too much for them.”
