Jurgen Klopp blocked Rhian Brewster’s loan move

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster has revealed that manager Jurgen Klopp blocked his loan move away in the summer.

The highly-rated youngster is highly thought of around the club but is yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool after suffering various injury setbacks last season. With Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah firmly established as the first choice trio in the attack, it will take some doing by Brewster to break into the first team

Brewster discussed going out on loan for this season but says Klopp blocked any move from materializing and said he wanted him to stay at Anfield.

Brewster told FourFourTwo: ‘Yeah, I spoke to him at the beginning of the season and he just said “no”. He doesn’t want me to go on loan, he wants me to stay. ‘So that’s fair enough and it’s good to hear.’ Asked whether he believes he has done enough to earn a first-team chance, Brewster added: ‘I hope so. ‘Obviously I’m not the judge of that, it’s not me – it’s the manager. You know, it’s up to him if he plays me.

The 19-year-old was one of the stars for the England U17 side that won the world cup in India two years ago.

Competition is good, it only makes you stronger. You don’t want to be the one who’s sitting on the bench or not playing. ‘So of course, it makes you motivated – and it only improves you playing with these guys [Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane]. ‘With those who aren’t as good, maybe the standard might drop a bit, but playing with great players helps

The Carabao Cup game against league one side MK Dons will provide Brewster his first opportunity to showcase his undoubted talent.
