Van Dijk Claims It’s Too Early To Talk About Winning The Title

Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk has admitted that it is too early for the Reds to be thinking about the Premier League title despite their five-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City in the early part of the season.

Liverpool have won all of their opening seven games in the Premier League this season and are looking to bring the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years. But they have a massive task ahead of them because everyone is aware that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are able to change the course of action any time.

The Merseyside giants managed to win the prestigious Champions League title in the summer after a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the competition. But despite amassing a club-record of 97 points in the League, Liverpool failed to win the title as Manchester City pipped them by a solitary point.

Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Sheffield United was an extremely difficult one for Klopp’s men as they fought really hard to earn the three points and rode their luck along the way. But Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk has insisted that there will be tougher games to come playing down the great start for Liverpool, “It doesn’t mean anything [the five-point lead]. It’s far too early. We’re almost in October and the busy period will come. There are still so many games left and the only thing we focus on is the game ahead of us. We don’t want to look at the others because there’s no point doing that. Everyone realizes that as well because last season we saw how it turned quickly. We just want to focus on the game ahead of us.”
