Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has explained that he does get a little bit frustrated with his fellow teammate Mohamed Salah on the field but insisted that the duo are still great friends off the pitch.
The Reds currently sit at the summit of the Premier League table after seven wins in as many games keeping up an impressive record at the start of the new season. Liverpool holds a five-point lead ahead of current champions Manchester City in second place. The Champions League winners are eager to bring the Premier League title to Merseyside and end the clubs 30 years wait for the Premiership title.
But with Manchester City being the dominant force in football for the past two seasons, it is extremely difficult for the Merseyside giants to think of the title as they are aware that Pep Guardiola’s side will capitalize on any mistakes as the pipped the title by a solitary point last season.
Although Liverpool has one of the most terrifying strike forces in the world, their fans were slightly worried about the on-field disputes between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
In the match against Burnley a few weeks ago, the Egyptian winger appeared to be selfish and not pass the ball to Mane when the latter was open and in a goalscoring position. Just after that, Mane was subbed off and looked visibly distraught at Salah on the bench and the Senegalese needed his teammates to cool him down.
Since then, Liverpool has been able to score goals and grind out the wins as well but Mane has claimed that he does get a tad frustrated with Salah at times on the pitch but only in an attempt to try and keep in tandem with Manchester City’s scoring ability.
Ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Salzburg in the Champions League today, the 27-year-old Mane clarified the spat between Salah during the game against the Clarets but admitted that he does get a bit frustrated, “I feel a little bit frustrated because it’s football you want to score more goals, you can see Man City eight, six, seven nil. You can see it, no? So, for me and for the team it is really important for us to score as many goals as we can. ‘But it can happen because he didn’t see me and I was a bit frustrated.”
Mane then went on to state that Mane still jokes around with Salah and his other teammates about the incident and even though the seriousness is forgotten, “But we come out (of it) as really, really good friends. Yesterday I said ‘Gini (Wijnaldum), tell Mo why Sadio wanted to beat you in the Burnley game’. Gini is so funny, I always say this kind of thing. ‘You know it is all forgotten, it is behind us.”
