Klopp Insists Lessons Need To Be Learnt After Salzburg Game

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp refused to be too critical of his side for letting a three-goal lead slip in their Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday but admitted that they have to learn lessons during the game rather than talk about them.

Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah struck twice and Senegalese star Sadio Mane, as well as Scottish fullback Andrew Robertson, got on the scoresheet as the reigning European champions survived a major scare to win 4-3 at Anfield on Wednesday. Following the opening day loss in the Champions League against Serie A side Napoli, Liverpool was in need of a win to kick start their title defense and they did so in dramatic fashion.

And Napoli’s draw with Genk meant the Reds moved into second on the Group above Salzburg and are just a point behind the Italian leaders. But despite the dramatic win over the Austrians, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp explained that it’s better to learn the lessons during the game than talk about it after it.

The 52-year-old German spoke to reporters after the game and said that his team needs to adapt to opposition game changes but wasn’t too displeased with his team, “I thought we were outstanding in the first 30 minutes, then the Salzburg system changed and we lost the ball so that caused us problems. The momentum changed and it was really difficult to get a foot in the game. We had to wait until they had scored the third goal, then we were able to strike back. I’m not angry – I saw us play really well and try hard to get back into the game and score a really nice goal. You don’t need to score six or seven goals.”
