Klopp Has Massive Problems With VAR

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that Marcus Rashford’s goal in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool has outlined “all the problems with the use of latest technology VAR”

The England striker gave United the lead after 36 minutes at Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side brought Liverpool’s 17-match Premier League winning streak to an end. However, there was plenty of controversy regarding the goal as Divock Origi was fouled in the process by Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Liverpool appealed for the goal to be ruled out for what they claimed was a foul but the goal was allowed to stand and Klopp insisted after the game that his striker was taken down illegally.

Adam Lallana’s 85th-minute equalizer rescued a vital point for the Merseyside giants which still kept them the only unbeaten team in England’s top flight, but the draw did not keep Klopp from questioning referee Martin Atkinson’s decision for the goal.

While speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the 52-year-old German spoke about the game in general as well as the opportunities, “[In the] second half we had good moments, The first half I did not like. We gave United the opportunity to do what they wanted to do, being aggressive and challenges everywhere. It’s football, but you have to pass these lines. The opportunities were there.

Klopp then went on to state that VAR is causing problems for teams and this error cost his Liverpool side, “They were better in the game than we were. They defended well but in the end United scored a goal that shows all the problems with VAR. Mr. Atkinson lets the game run because I am sure he thinks VAR will show if there is contact. There is a foul, 100 percent it is clear it is a foul. We cannot change it but in general, there is a problem. They still have 60 or 70 yards to run until they scored a goal but still.”
