Ederson Set To Miss Anfield Showdown

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will be without their number one shot-stopper Ederson Moraes when they travel to Anfield to meet Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday.

The Spanish manager has confirmed that Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson will miss a huge Premier League encounter against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday through an injury that he picked up during the Champions League encounter against Atalanta.

The Premier League’s top two teams are due to meet for the first time this season at the weekend, with six points currently separating the two in the table.

The Reds have gained a healthy advantage after winning 10 of their first 11 fixtures remaining the only unbeaten team in England’s top flight, but City can make up significant ground with a win at Merseyside.

However, the Premier League champions will not have Ederson between the sticks after he failed to shake off a muscular issue suffered on Champions League duty.

The Brazilian was forced off the pitch at half-time during City’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta on Wednesday, and second choice keeper Claudio Bravo drafted in as his replacement.

Guardiola issued an update on Ederson’s fitness to reporters on Friday, before insisting Bravo is more than capable of filling the void left by the 26 years old Brazilian.

The 48-year-old Guardiola said that he has faith in Bravo after issuing Ederson’s injury, “Ederson is not able to play. I don’t know how long he will be out for. Sunday, he cannot play. We have another top keeper. Claudio Bravo can do it, too. We won the Carabao Cup thanks to Claudio. He’s an exceptional keeper. Why should I doubt any player in my team? Why do you ask these questions? You have to respect this guy, he has won trophies and Copa America. In his first season, the team was not at the top level.”

Ederson’s absence will be a massive boost for Liverpool as the goalkeeper usually plays a big part in the Citizens playing out from the back.
