Liverpool fans might have a slight concern regarding the fitness of their star forward Mohamed Salah after the winger pulled out of Egypt’s national team squad due to an ankle injury.
The 27-year-old Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against continental rivals Kenya and Comoros due to his persistent ankle injury following the clash against Manchester City
Liverpool is currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table and is eight points clear of 2nd placed Chelsea and Leicester City. But the last thing that Jurgen Klopp needs is an injury to his talisman at this crucial point of the season.
Salah was managing his ankle issue since hobbling off the pitch during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester City last month, having been on the end of a rugged late challenge from Foxes’ midfielder Hamza Choudhury.
The 27-year-old seemed to be in slight discomfort again in Sunday’s mammoth clash against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Salah was caught by Brazilian center back Fernandinho during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory, initially staying down before playing on until the 87th minute, but was seen with his foot strapped following the full-time whistle.
Salah linked up with his international team-mates on Monday for the AFCON qualifications, but the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced Salah will not take part against Kenya or Comoros due to his injury.
A statement on the EFA’s official Twitter account read, “Medical tests have confirmed Salah is not ready for Kenya and Comoros,”
Salah has already scored nine goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season and racked up five in his past seven outings. But the Reds would be concerned over their striker’s fitness as Liverpool hope to compete on all fronts.
