Liverpool center back Virgil van Dijk has sent out a warning to title rivals Manchester City that the Reds are not afraid and have no interest in playing out a draw ahead of the Anfield showdown this Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool hold a six-point advantage over title rivals and defending champions Manchester City heading into the weekend’s highly anticipated showdown at Merseyside. But Liverpool had a lead last season as well and decided to sit back which eventually cost them the Premier League title when Manchester City marked the only defeat of their season in England’s top flight last term.
Now, with the chance to surge further and increase the gap and go nine points clear ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table, the European champions are not entertaining the prospect of settling for a point.
And Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk has explained that Liverpool want a win at the weekend, and also claimed that he has no fear of facing the reigning champions of England, “That’s something we are not going to think about or discuss now whether a draw is good enough, We want to win every game that we play and so it is Sunday of course, and they want to win as well. So we will see. I have no fear. You should not have fear when you go out on the pitch. That’s not something that we feel. We know we have the quality to win games, but we have to be more than at our best at times, and hopefully for the full 90 minutes, and try to grind out games as well.”
Liverpool is still the only unbeaten team in the Premier League at the moment after 12 games played and Van Dijk would hope to keep up that incredible record.
