Van Dijk Solely Focused On Netherlands At The Moment

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is focused purely on ensuring the Netherlands completes the job at hand and qualifies for the Euro 2020 and not on Liverpool’s Premier League title bid at the moment.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds defeated reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield on Sunday to open up an eight-point gap at the summit of the table, with Pep Guardiola’s side nine points behind the leaders.

PFA and UEFA Player Of The year Van Dijk was asked by Sky Sports whether establishing such a commanding lead made it feel like this season could finally see Liverpool ending their 30-year drought for a Premier League title.

However, the 28-year-old Liverpool defender Van Dijk will not look beyond Saturday’s contest with Northern Ireland in Belfast, where a point will be enough for the Netherlands to qualify for the Euros next year.

The Dutch center back said that it was mainly for the media to hype up everything while he is only concentrating on his football, “I’m not gonna say that [it feels like Liverpool’s year], It’s something for the media. For players the main thing is we focus on the game ahead of us. “

Van Dijk further explained that his sole focus at the moment is to ensure that his national team makes it to the Euro’s, “For me personally it’s Northern Ireland, it’s a tough task. What happens with Liverpool in the future we’ll see, we have no influence on it, the season is so long. My focus is on the next game, at the moment that’s [with our] national teams.”

Liverpool currently sits at the top of the Premier League table and still unbeaten in 12 games and are looking determined to keep their heads up high and focus on the job at hand in the top flight.
