Liverpool left back Andrew Robertson has hailed the “fantastic” contribution of Senegalese winger Sadio Mane after the forward’s latest goal for the Reds against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Mane has arguably emerged as one of Liverpool’s most important player this season since his return from the AFCON as the 27-year-old has been in sublime form in front of goal. Having netted 12 goals in all competitions and assisting five more, Mane’s teammate on the left-hand side of the pitch, Robertson has pinpointed Mane’s clinical approach in front of goal as the biggest difference in his transformation under Jurgen Klopp over the past few seasons.
After the narrow 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, the 25-year-old Robertson waxed lyrical on Mane admitting that he has been fantastic and how he has managed to take his game to the next level, “Sadio has been fantastic, Even when I came he was amazing, but maybe did not have as much composure as he does now in front of goal. Now every time he is there you don’t think he will miss”
Although Mane missed a one on one chance earlier in the second half, Robertson further added, “The chance he had at the start of the second half, we were surprised he did not score, and that is the type of player he is. Then he has popped up with another crucial goal. It has been a fantastic year for him and let’s hope he can keep going for a full season instead of a calendar year. He has taken his game to another level.”
Mane won the Golden Boot last season and shared the honor with African duo of Mohamed Salah and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang with each of them netting 22 times in the Premier League. However, Mane really looks like he is determined to jump out of Salah’s shadow at Liverpool and get into the record books for the European heavyweights.
