Major Setback For Liverpool As Fabinho Injured For The Remainder Of The Year

The Premier League leaders have been dealt with a massive blow as Brazilian midfielder Fabinho is set to miss all the games until the New Year.

The 25-year-old Brazilian suffered an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw against Italian side Napoli at Anfield on Wednesday and his injury could tilt Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League as he will miss a number of games in the congestive festive period for the Merseyside giants.

The red half of Merseyside confirmed that they will be without Fabinho until the New Year due to ankle ligament damage that the midfielder sustained during the 1-1 Champions League draw against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Fabinho was substituted after just 18 minutes of Wednesday’s game at Anfield and the Brazilian is now set to sit on the sidelines for a potentially pivotal period of Liverpool’s campaign.

A club statement released by Liverpool today read, “Further assessment on the injury has discovered Fabinho will be out of action until the New Year, The Brazilian will begin a rehabilitation program with the Reds’ medical team at Melwood as he works his way back to full fitness.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side will battle across four tournaments over the next month also defending an eight-point lead at the summit of the Premier League.

A point for each team in the midweek game against Napoli means that Liverpool head to Salzburg on December 10 with qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League still in their own hands.

However, Fabinho has been instrumental for Liverpool since making his move to the club from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco last summer transfer window and Klopp will be hoping that his rest of the squad members can fill in the void until his absence.
